Bellavista's Gran Cuvée Millesimato distinguishes itself from traditional Brut not only by the quality of the raw materials used, but also, and especially, by the fact that more than a quarter of the wines from which it is made are aged for seven months in small oak barrels. This results in a wine that is perfectly balanced, long, and complex.
The vineyards of Bellavista
In 1977, the Bellavista winery was founded by a wealthy Brescia industrialist, Vittorio Moretti, who saw the great potential of this wine region. Today, the winery boasts 117 hectares of its own vineyards, largely planted with the grape varieties used for its sparkling wines: Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Nero. All grapes are hand-picked and processed. All sparkling wines are made in the same way as Champagne, using old wooden presses. Forty percent is aged in oak barrels. Mattia Vezzola, the winemaker, possesses the talent to realize Moretti's unique ideas. He possesses the quality that allows him to produce wines that excel in pure concentration, without sacrificing elegance.
Seven months of wood aging for the Bellavista Brut Franciacorta La Scala
The Gran Cuvée gains additional complexity and depth through the fermentation of a third of the grapes in oak barrels. In March of the year following the harvest, all the wine is combined again and bottled to develop its bubbles. Only after three years is the wine fully matured, aged for seven months in small oak barrels.
A beautiful sparkling wine, with aromas of nuts, hawthorn, bay leaf, and hints of citrus and candied almonds. On the palate, this wine is dry, elegant, and perfectly balanced between freshness and softness. It has length and complexity and is wonderfully full-bodied. A superb aperitif, Bellavista's "Gran Cuvée" is the ideal sparkling wine to accompany risotto, oysters, salads, or chicken dishes.
