La Linterna is the micro-terroir series from Bemberg Estate Wines. For this family collection, exceptional plots from various Argentine wine regions were selected and bottled individually, so that each terroir retains its unique character. The name La Linterna refers to searching for and shedding light on these exceptional sites.
Chief winemaker Daniel Pi and chief winegrower Marcelo Belmonte developed the range based on extensive research into soil, climate, and location. The number #5 refers to the specific plot where the grapes originate and is therefore not a quality ranking.
-
Gualtallary: The plot is located in the northern part of Tupungato, within the Uco Valley in Mendoza.
-
Altitude: Finca El Tomillo is situated at 1,210 meters, where warm days and cool nights ensure slow ripening and the preservation of freshness.
-
Location: The vineyard is situated on an alluvial fan formed by water currents from the Las Tunas River.
-
Plot #5: A deep layer of sand reaching approximately 120 centimeters rests upon rounded stones with a high calcium carbonate content.
-
Climate: The environment is cool, dry, and rocky, with little rainfall and significant temperature fluctuations.
-
Grape: The wine is made entirely from Malbec from vines planted in 2004.
-
Aging: The wine is aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
-
Bottling: To preserve the character of the plot, the wine is bottled without stabilization or filtration.
-
Style: Dark fruit, spices, licorice, cloves, and graphite are complemented by wild herbs and earthy notes. Fresh acidity and fine, firm tannins give the wine precision and length.
-
Aging potential: Under good conditions, the wine can continue to develop for approximately fifteen years.
