Blazon Chardonnay is an expressive California white wine that pulls out all the stops: tropical fruit, a creamy texture, and a powerful oaky note. This wine is part of Oak Ridge Winery's iconic Blazon series, which focuses on the influence of oak on wine. The name "Blazon" refers to revealing character – and this Chardonnay does just that. Aged partly in Hungarian and partly in French oak, the wine delivers a remarkably full-bodied style with a long, oak-driven finish.

Vineyards and region

This wine hails from Lodi, one of California's most diverse wine regions. Thanks to the warm days and cool nights, the grapes retain their fresh acidity while ripening optimally. Oak Ridge Winery is one of the oldest operating wineries in this region and actively promotes sustainable vineyard practices, prioritizing water conservation, biodiversity, and renewable energy.

Vinification and maturation

After harvest, the grapes undergo controlled fermentation, followed by four months of aging. The wine is aged 50% in Hungarian oak and 50% in French oak, which gives it a distinct oak character. This process not only adds structure but also layers of flavors of vanilla, toast, and spice. The wine is deliberately kept full-bodied and creamy, without filtration, which could soften its character.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

The nose reveals aromas of honeycomb and ripe stone fruit. The palate reveals notes of grilled pineapple and Golden Delicious apple. The structure is full and creamy, with a long, wood-driven finish in which the oak character is prominently present.
