A somewhat lesser-known port from Calem is this Calem Fine White Port. However, this gem should not be underestimated. A delicious white port with an excellent price-quality ratio. Port house Cálem Porto was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. Since its inception, this port house has invested considerable time and energy in producing high-quality Port wines at very reasonable prices. This has resulted in high market recognition and several international awards. Calem Porto is the market leader in Portugal. There is no store in Portugal that sells drinks without Calem in its assortment. The familiar look of the bottles is also recognizable worldwide. We were therefore quite surprised that the labels were gradually getting a new look. But, once again, the recognizability of these beautiful bottles is optimal!
Sensational white port
For many, white Port is still quite unfamiliar territory. However, it is a very pleasant and refreshing product. Calem's white Port is made exclusively from white grapes, namely Codega and Malvasia. These two grape varieties grow on very old vines, resulting in deep and intense flavors. This results in a small yield, but the grapes pressed are excellent. The harvest is gathered exclusively by hand under the supervision of Calem's winemaker, ensuring each bunch is inspected. As you can imagine, only the best is good enough for Calem Port wines. The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness, which gives this Fine White its pleasantly sweet flavor. This port is aged for a total of three years in both wooden and steel barrels to preserve its freshness.
Calem Fine White Port in the taste
We're now very curious about the results of all the effort in the vineyards and the winery. Calem Porto has truly created a feast. Upon pouring, we were immediately impressed by the beautiful golden color that sparkles majestically in the glass. On the nose, we discovered pleasant aromas of tropical fruit and sweet flowers, with a hint of dried apricots at the finish. The palate is full-bodied and very appealing. Numerous nuances of ripe white sweet fruit like pear and melon, and at the end, light oak notes that translate into a touch of vanilla. The finish is mildly sweet and very refined. Enjoy this white port slightly chilled as an accompaniment to delicious tropical fruit desserts.
