The Micina Nerello Mascalese is a red wine made from local grapes, certainly one of the most important wines produced by the Cellaro company. The winery is located in one of Sicily's most beautiful wine regions. This wine is characterized by its distinctive and original character.

Local wines from Cantine Cellaro

Founded in 1972, Cantine Cellaro is located in the Sambuca di Sicilia region and is one of the most important wineries in the province of Agrigento. The cooperative now has 1,000 members who collectively own 1,700 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are planted on rolling hills between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. Here, the grapes benefit from the ideal climate. Plenty of sunshine alternates with a fresh breeze from the hills. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally and develop a unique character. The vines are planted on clayey soils interspersed with limestone. This also makes Cantine Cellaro's wines unique. This well-known cooperative specializes in local grapes. Grillo is primarily used for white wines, and Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese for reds. They have experimented extensively with these grape varieties to determine exactly what they need to produce quality wines.

6 months of wood aging for Cantine Cellaro Micina Nerello Mascalese

The grapes are carefully harvested at peak ripeness. Only the very best grapes are good enough for Cellaro wines, so they are rigorously selected in the winery. The grapes macerate for a long time before being placed in barriques for malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine is aged for six months in the same barrels. The Micina wine reveals an intense ruby red color in the glass, immediately releasing inviting aromas of red fruit and herbs with fresh balsamic notes. On the palate, it has good structure and a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. A delicious wine to pair with rice and red meat dishes.
