Carl Ehrhard Berg Roseneck Riesling Trocken BIO

A characterful Rheingau Riesling with tension, precision, and considerable depth. Kellermeister Carl Ehrhard hand-harvests here in the historic part of Berg Roseneck, originating from the old Ramstein vineyard. The result is a dry Riesling with a lively aroma, a tight attack, and a long, mineral finish.

Vineyards and region

The grapes come from an old parcel within Berg Roseneck, originally called Ramstein. The steep slopes and poor soils result in low yields and high concentration. Nature dictates the rhythm of the vineyard, and this is reflected in the clarity, precise acidity, and pure aroma.

Vinification and maturation

The harvest is entirely by hand. What does spontaneous fermentation mean, and what does it taste like? The must ferments on its own, natural yeasts without additives, which adds extra layering and terroir expression. The wine then matures for 12 months on fine lees in large oak barrels, meaning it rests on the fine yeast cells for added texture and length without overpowering the fruit. Vinification is carried out without any additives and gently filtered to preserve all the natural aromas.

Grape composition

100 percent Riesling from Berg Roseneck. Riesling from the Rheingau is known for its high natural acidity, precise citrus and stone fruit notes, and a mineral backbone that can age beautifully.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

The aroma opens with citrus, green apple, and delicate spice, followed by wet stone and a floral note. The palate is dry and tight with plenty of energy, supported by 6.9 grams per liter of acidity and a crystal-clear structure. The finish is long and mineral, supported by 12.5 percent alcohol and 2.8 grams per liter of residual sugar for perfect balance. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees Celsius in a large glass with sushi and sashimi, ceviche, grilled trout, apple and fennel salad, or soft, creamy goat cheese. Thanks to its concentration and fine acidity, this wine has excellent aging potential.
