Carmen Winery is named after the wife of Christian Lanz, who founded the winery in 1850. Today, it is the oldest bodega still active in Chilean viticulture. They utilize state-of-the-art facilities. But that alone is the foundation of Carmen's success. The professional team of oenologists, led by Maria del Pilar González, also plays a key role in the creation of its high-quality wines.

The harvest and vinification of Carmen Gran Reserva Chardonnay

To create this magnificent wine, Carmen pulled out all the stops. The grapes for this exceptional Chardonnay are planted in the cool Casablanca Valley on soil rich in clay and loam, ideal conditions for producing a top-quality Chardonnay. The grapes are grown just thirty kilometers from the cool Pacific coast. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and then rigorously inspected before being pressed in the cellar. To prevent the wine from becoming too bitter, a short, vigorous oxidation process takes place. The wine is fully fermented in French oak barrels. After aging in barrels for eight months, the wine is ready for bottling. What a delicious wine this is! The flavor also leaves nothing to be desired: a good balance of acidity and bitterness and a lovely length. Flavors of yellow fruit, vanilla, spices, and very ripe apricots complete the whole experience!
