The Santenay "Le Chainey" 2022 from Domaine Caroline Morey is a refined red wine that embodies the essence of the Santenay terroir in the Côte de Beaune. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this wine offers a harmonious balance between fruitiness and structure.
About the Domain
Caroline Morey, daughter of renowned winemaker Jean-Marc Morey, began producing wines under her own name in 2014. Together with her husband, Pierre-Yves Colin, she manages vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, and Beaune. Her wines are known for their precision, elegance, and expression of the terroir.
Vineyard and Terroir
The "Le Chainey" vineyard is located next to the famous Premier Cru "Clos Rousseau" in Santenay. The soil consists primarily of limestone and clay, which contributes to the wine's minerality and complexity. The vines are of average age, resulting in a concentrated and expressive wine.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted to select only the finest fruit. After traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new. This approach creates a subtle oak influence that complements the wine's fruity and mineral characteristics.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine presents a bright ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red berries, cherries, and raspberries, with subtle floral notes and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is elegant and balanced, with a silky texture, lively acidity, and fine tannins. The finish is long and refreshing, with lingering fruity and mineral nuances.
Serving Temperature and Gastronomic Combinations
Serve this wine at a temperature of 14-16°C. The Santenay "Le Chainey" is a versatile accompaniment to a variety of dishes, including grilled poultry, lamb, mushroom risotto, and soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert. Its freshness and elegance also make it an excellent choice with dishes with a subtle spiciness.
