Casa Coller's sparkling wines and proseccos go way back in time. It was shoemaker Amadio Pirovano who, in 1850, decided to open a restaurant with his sons, serving local wines. It was a resounding success, and in 1910 they established a winery called Pirovano. Over the years, it expanded, and today they produce many fine wines, all based on Amadio Pirovano's guiding principles: smoothness and purity. Located in Veneto, Casa Coller, part of the Pirovano group, is a winery that we can taste. Casa Coller produces exquisite sparkling wines from various local grape varieties, including Chardonnay.
What does Vino Spumante Brut mean?
The Chardonnay vineyards in Veneto are in excellent condition. The grapes receive ample sunshine, and the fresh breeze contributes to the refined acidity of this Casa Coller Chardonnay. The Chardonnay grapes are harvested at night after a long ripening period. This allows the Chardonnay grapes to retain their freshness, which is evident in this Casa Coller. This sparkling Vino Spumante Brut is a wine aged in Casa Coller's steel barrels. This technique is also known as "méthode charmat." This means that the second fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, not in the bottle, as with Champagne.
Full and very powerful this Casa Coller Chardonnay
This full-bodied Chardonnay from Casa Boller is unique because we've never seen a sparkling wine made solely from Chardonnay grapes. It can be compared to a Blanc de Blancs, and its characteristics are fresh with a good acid balance and some minerality. On the nose, this Casa Boller Chardonnay has notes of green apples, citrus fruit, and a hint of grapefruit. The palate is smooth and very refined, with a lovely soft mousse and ripe flavors of peach, apples, melon, and plenty of lime and lemon. A hint of green herbs like mint still remains on the palate.
