To this day, Casa de Compostela remains family-owned. The name suggests this wine originates in Spain, but it's actually a Portuguese winery. In Spain, we call it Albarino, but in Portugal, that same grape suddenly becomes Alvarinho. The wine region, Vinho Verde, and the winery are located between the cities of Porto and Braga. The region has a maritime climate thanks to the Atlantic Ocean, which significantly influences the climate. This means there's considerable rainfall, resulting in a beautiful green landscape. The small Alvarinho grapes don't produce large yields and are rigorously selected in the vineyards themselves. After harvest, they are transported to the winery where the vinification process begins.
