This is Casa Silva's iconic wine, Altura. A true gem, a gem, a real gem, whatever you want to call it, because this juice is unique. This red wine is only produced in the very best vintages, which is usually every three years. The name Altura literally means "high," which is what winemaker Mario Geisse wanted to achieve with this wine: high in quality, high in distinctiveness, and high in flavor. Well, he achieved all of that with the finest and best grapes from Casa Silva.

The best Carmenere grapes for this Altura

This wine is made with the finest Carmenere grapes grown in the vineyards of Viña Casa Silva in Los Lingues. This vineyard is located at the foot of the Andes Mountains. An extremely dry terroir with a unique microclimate. Exceptional alluvial-colluvial soils with excellent drainage properties. A unique feat, and you can feel it in both the aroma and the taste. The entire harvest is hand-picked, selected in small batches, and brought to the winery. Upon arrival, the grapes are cooled to 5°C. Hand selection takes place before and after destemming to ensure only the finest grapes remain. Pre-fermentation maceration lasts 12 days at 8°C. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation in rotating vats for 14 days at a controlled temperature of 28°C. This process concludes with malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.

The best wine from Casa Silva: Altura

The aroma is phenomenal, very powerful with notes of ripe black fruit, plums, blackberries, cedar, vanilla, leather, tobacco, coffee, etc. The taste is very complex with powerful yet soft tannins. Aromas of ripe black fruit, vanilla, stewed plums, cedar, tobacco leaves, and abundant spices. Too much to mention, really; savor it to the last sip.
