The magic words are full, soft, and ripe for this Barbera d'Alba Superiore from the Cascina Ghercina winery. The grapes are grown in the best conditions in the Alba region.
A true family business Cascina Ghercina
Brothers Paola and Guid Ghercina are following in the footsteps of their father and grandfather, representing the fourth generation of winemakers in the family. Cascina Ghercina has been a household name in the Piedmont region of Italy for almost 150 years. They strive to produce wines for wine lovers passionate about Piedmontese wines and constantly seeking quality and tradition. Respect for the region, a constant commitment to excellence, and genuine passion: these are the values inherited from the four generations of producers from which Cascina Ghercina originates, combined daily with the technologies that modernity offers.
The vineyards are located southwest of the town of Alba, at an altitude of 360 meters. Cascina Gherina's wines are all made from grapes grown on the estate (not cooperatives) and offer excellent value for money. The name Cascina Ghercina comes from the Ghercina River. Thanks to this river and the high altitude, the grapes benefit from a unique microclimate.
A selection of the very best grapes
After a rigorous hand-harvest, the wine is aged for at least twelve months, four of which are spent in French oak barrels. During this period, it develops strength and smoothness. Cascina Ghercina Barbera d'Alba's aroma reveals hints of black fruit, blueberries, vanilla pods, and a hint of light spice. The palate is a feast for the eyes, soft on the palate, and an impressive bouquet of dark black fruit complemented by oak, vanilla, light spice, and lavender. This delicious red wine pairs perfectly with duck and pork dishes, as well as pasta dishes.
