The Gavi di Gavi from Cascina Ghercina is an ultimate glass of wine! Made from Cortese grapes grown in the best conditions. Its pale straw color evokes the brilliant sparkle of the sea.
The Cascina Ghercina winery
Cascina Ghercina Winery was taken over by Paolo and Guido Sartirano in 2002. The two brothers wanted to create a fine selection for wine lovers with a passion for high-quality, traditional Piedmont wines. And that's precisely how these wines are made: according to Piedmontese winemaking tradition. The brothers' values are: respect for the terroir, the constant quest for excellence, and authentic passion. They now combine these values with modern technology.
All wines come from a valuable, world-renowned region: the Langhe. The wine cellar is dominated by wines of Piedmontese wine tradition. The wines are produced using grapes from vineyards that partially surround Lake Ghercina. This area is particularly suitable for ripening grapes. Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo are the main vines from which important wines are produced.
The vinification and flavors of Cascina Ghercina Gavi Di Gavi
The Cortese grape is not very robust and requires a good climate to ripen well. In the Alessandria region, it has all the necessary conditions for this grape to ripen exceptionally well. The vines are planted on soil of rock, marl, and limestone with a sandy subsoil. The vineyards are southwest-facing at an altitude of 360 meters. After careful harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain only the finest juice for this Gavi di Gavi. The aroma has hints of citrus fruit, some minerals, and green apple. The taste is an experience, ripe and fresh with beautifully present notes of apple, lime, grass, and a hint of gooseberry. This wine is ideal as an aperitif but also pairs well with more exotic dishes such as sushi or tempura. A classic pairing is with grilled fish and shellfish, but also with blue cheeses and seasonal salads.
