This Chardonnay Riserva is made with a selection of Chardonnay grapes from the finest vineyards on the slopes of Trentino's mountains. At an altitude of between 250 and 500 meters above sea level, the grapes enjoy an excellent microclimate. The grapes are harvested when ripe, resulting in a golden-yellow wine with a highly aromatic character.
The grape varieties wines of Castel Firmian
In 1904, the MezzaCorona wine cooperative was founded. It was the very first in Italy, and today, the name stands for a group of wineries spread throughout Italy. For over a hundred years, this winery has delighted millions of wine drinkers worldwide with their Italian varietal wines. But recently, the company has shifted its focus from quantity to quality. The Castel Firmian grape varietal line is a particularly successful expression of this development. It is named after a castle perched high above the Piana Rotaliana vineyards. The wines made from select grapes are characterized by great elegance, distinctive aromas, and impressive harmony.
The Chardonnay grapes are harvested in September and partially undergo a cold maceration in the winery. This is done to extract more aromas from the skins. A gentle pressing follows. The must is then transferred, half to steel and half to French oak barrels, for fermentation. The wines are aged for eight months in oak and four months in steel. Finally, the wine is aged in bottle for another three to four months.
An aromatic Riserva Chardonnay
It's a fragrant wine with complex notes of spices and ripe fruits like melon, peach, and apple. Notes of vanilla, almond, and hazelnut also emerge clearly thanks to the oak aging. On the palate, it's a structured wine with soft notes. The flavor is fresh and juicy, with a subtle almond bitterness in the finish. Magnificent!
