Champagne Boizel La Côte Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs, France
Champagne Boizel La Côte Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru is an elegant Blanc de Blancs from the Côte des Blancs, the Chardonnay heart of Champagne. This cuvée is made entirely from Chardonnay from Grands and Premiers Crus and gains extra depth from 3 years of aging on the lees and 20% reserve wines.
Vineyards and Region
This champagne comes from the Côte des Blancs, one of the most famous regions within Champagne for Chardonnay.
Location / Origin: La Côte is made from Grands and Premiers Crus from the Côte des Blancs. Chouilly brings floral refinement, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger minerality, Avize power, and Vertus elegant fruit.
Climate & Influences: Champagne has a cool northern climate, which allows Chardonnay to retain its fresh acidity, fine tension, and elegant aromatic structure here.
Vineyard & Selection: Only Chardonnay is used for this cuvée. The choice of Grands and Premiers Crus gives the wine extra origin, depth, and refinement.
Vinification and Aging
The strength of this Blanc de Blancs lies in the combination of pure Chardonnay, aging on the lees, and refined dosage.
Fermentation: The base wines are carefully vinified per cru, so that the different origins retain their own character for the final blend.
Aging: The champagne ages for 3 years on the lees. What is aging on the lees? It means that after the second fermentation, the wine remains in contact with the fine yeast cells, which provides extra creaminess, brioche notes, and length.
Reserve Wines: The blend contains 20% reserve wines. These add more depth, consistency, and maturity to the fresh Chardonnay base.
Dosage: With 6 g/l dosage, the style remains dry and precise, with enough roundness to beautifully support the mineral tension.
Grape Composition
This Blanc de Blancs is made entirely from Chardonnay.
100% Chardonnay – Côte des Blancs: Chardonnay gives this champagne its floral aroma, citrus freshness, fine mousse, and long mineral finish.
Tasting Notes and Serving Tips
Light golden yellow in the glass, with green reflections and a fine, even mousse. The aroma opens with acacia blossom, hawthorn, brioche, honey, almond, and citrus. The taste is silky smooth, fresh, and elegant, with notes of hazelnut, grapefruit, toast, and a long mineral finish.
Serving Temperature: Serve at 8–10 °C, so that the fine mousse, fresh citrus, and mineral tension remain beautifully crisp.
Dishes: Delicious as an aperitif and wonderful with shrimp, grilled fish, scallops, white meat, sushi, oysters, or delicate dishes with citrus and cream.
Awards
90 points, Wine Enthusiast: Roger Voss praises this Blanc de Blancs for its combination of fresh fruit, mineral texture, citrus tension, and crisp finish.
4.2 stars, Vivino: A strong public rating that perfectly matches the refined and accessible style of this Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru.
