A Blanc de Blancs Champagne made exclusively from grapes grown in Premier Cru vineyards is something you don't see very often. The small Champagne house Larnaudie Hirault is a global player when it comes to refined Champagne. It's a true family winery, currently run by Michael Larnaudie and his wife. All the knowledge and experience have been passed down from father to son, and we can taste it. With the utmost respect for nature and environmentally friendly vinification, they ensure that Champagne is world-renowned. The family sells part of their ten-hectare yield to Louis Roederer, with whom they have a long-standing relationship and partnership. The rest is used for their own Champagne house, and we are incredibly happy with that.
The harvest for the Blanc de Blancs
This Champagne uses only Chardonnay grapes, which is why it deserves the name Blanc de Blancs. The vineyards for the Chardonnay bunches are located in the Montagne de Reims, where the climate is perfect for the Chardonnay grape. The bunches grow on very old vines, some 40 years old, which contributes to their exceptional quality. They enjoy abundant sunshine, but also the cool breeze and sharply falling nighttime temperatures. This allows the bunches to retain their freshness, and combined with the chalky soil structure, it's a success story.
Full and very powerful this Larnaudie Hirault Blanc de Blancs
After a long aging period in the cellars of Champagne Larnaudie Hirault, the Blanc de Blancs is ready to drink. But we'd like to take a moment to consider its aging. This period of at least six years gives this Champagne an extra touch, making it riper and full-bodied. But let's start by popping the cork. After the pop, it immediately releases a lively aroma of citrus fruit and beautiful minerals. In the glass, it turns golden yellow with a slight green shimmer. Its aroma is full of notes, bringing to mind hints of lime, green apple, fresh pear, and a touch of gooseberry. On the palate, the fine bubbles give the tongue a fresh feeling with lovely light tannins. Refined acidity on the cheek completes this Blanc de Blancs. The powerful flavors of citrus and apple complete the whole experience, and all for this price. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
