Just south of the large city of Reims in the Champagne region lies the small village of Trois-Puits. Locals say this small village produces excellent Champagnes. Champagne Larnaudie Hirault is also located here and, under the leadership of the fourth generation, produces top-notch Champagne. Michael and his wife are at the helm of the family winery and have invested heavily in recent years. They have installed a brand new press, expanded the cellar, and invested heavily in modern winemaking techniques. But above all, they produce Champagnes steeped in tradition, as has been their hallmark for years. With great respect for nature and a focus on environmentally friendly vinification, their Champagnes are exceptionally pure.
The harvest for the Cuvée Prestige
This top-quality Cuvéé is made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, each accounting for half of the total. These grapes are grown on Larnaudie Hirault's oldest vines in Trois-Puits and Taissy, both classified as Premier Cru. You don't often see Champagnes labeled Premier Cru anymore, but those you do find are excellent. Just like this Larnaudie Hirault Cuvée Prestige, a unique harvest that's very low. Because of this, there's always a shortage of this Champagne. There simply aren't enough bottles, but luckily we still have a few. After pressing, the bottles are aged in the Larnaudie Hirault cellars. They stay there for at least seven to eight years, which is exceptionally long for a Champagne. Furthermore, the wine is previously aged in oak barrels, making this Champagne a true masterpiece. We can safely call it the crème de la crème.
The best Champagne from Larnaudie Hirault
We pop the cork and pour this festive juice. A golden yellow color meets delicate bubbles that tantalize our senses. The aroma is intense, and we realize this is more than just a glass of Champagne. A powerful attack of apricots, vanilla, roasted nuts, and a hint of spice. The palate is a pure indulgence, offering hints of citrus and yellow fruits like apricots. On the palate, the bubbles gently tingle, revealing hints of pear, lime, and hazelnut. What a finish, and yes, this is our favorite Champagne from Larnaudie.
