What a beautiful, classic winery in Burgundy, Chanson. Since 1750, wines have been made here from the finest grapes grown on the finest slopes. Over the years, the Chanson winery has kept pace with the times without losing the tradition of Burgundy wines. But the winery's true pioneering spirit was demonstrated in 1899, when the Vire Clesse appellation was created and is still highly acclaimed today. In 1999, the family winery was acquired by the Bollinger family, known for its fantastic Champagnes. Besides sharing their winemaking expertise, the families invested heavily in the prestigious winery. The quality skyrocketed, and today, Chanson is considered the king of Burgundy.
The old Burgundy vineyard of Chanson
Chanson boasts some of the finest vineyards in the entire Burgundy wine region. All the vineyards are mature, some even reaching ninety years old, resulting in a modest yield but exceptional quality. Because the old vines are deeply rooted in the chalky soil, they can absorb a wealth of influences from the soil. The vineyards are located in the Côte Chalonnaise, Côte d'Or, and Côte de Beaune, on the finest slopes and with the best weather conditions, the Chardonnay grapes are grown here. The climate is perfect, with abundant sunshine allowing the Chardonnay grapes to ripen perfectly, but they also benefit from the coolness of the nighttime temperatures and the breeze that blows through the vineyards. All of this contributes to the quality of this Chanson Bourgogne Chardonnay.
Wood aging for the Chanson Bourgogne Chardonnay
Once the Chardonnay grapes have reached full ripeness, each vineyard is harvested individually by hand. This is a difficult task, as some of the slopes are very steep. The grapes are placed in small crates after being inspected by eye. Only the finest bunches are used for this Chardonnay. Once the blend has been determined by the Chanson winemaker, the wine is aged in oak barrels. This gives this white Chanson Bourgogne Chardonnay its full and powerful aroma and flavor. The color of this Chanson Le Bourgogne Chardonnay is very promising, golden with a green sheen. The nose offers delicate aromas of exotic fruit and fresh honey with a hint of minerality, as well as vanilla and oak notes. The palate is equally beautiful, with a rich structure, a thick attack, and plenty of yellow fruit, a touch of vanilla, and perfect acidity that perfectly balances the wine. A truly beautiful example of a top-notch Bourgogne Chardonnay.
