This is the king's wine from Château d'Aussieres in the Corbières! A wine you won't easily forget, thanks to its rich terroir and structure. Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is certainly no stranger to the wine world, as they still produce one of France's finest exclusive wines today. They have a long track record and a wealth of experience in vinifying top wines. They started with the idea of producing wines in other regions besides their beloved Bordeaux, and so to speak, in 1999 they acquired Château d'Aussières, a winery with a centuries-old history. Here, they boasted ancient vineyards, and yes, even the Romans had already made wine here. They were surprised by its potential and purchased the château.
The old vineyard of Chateau d'Aussieres
The Château d'Aussieres winery, located northwest of Narbonne, is currently in magnificent condition. Things were quite different when Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired it. Many vineyards had been neglected and needed replanting. Only the best vines in the oldest sites were left standing, and these are now used to make this top-quality wine. International grape varieties, Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, and Mourvèdre, are used, all harvested by hand. After the harvest, this Château d'Aussieres is aged for a full sixteen months in oak barrels. This results in a truly stately and powerful wine!
Full and very powerful this Chateau d'Aussieres Corbieres
The aroma is fully developed, with plenty of black fruit, spices, vanilla, and a hint of earth. The palate is full and complex with just the right amount of tannins, and plenty of fruit, such as blackberries and berries, typical of the Corbières region. We also noted oak, vanilla, pepper, and a hint of plum.
