Vintage Report

2023 was a challenging but ultimately good year for white Bordeaux, with wines showing lovely freshness and aromatic intensity. Conditions were favourable for preserving vibrant acidity and fruit expression.

Château Haut Dambert Cuvée Clemence Blanc 2023 Entre Deux Mers, France

Château Haut Dambert Cuvée Clemence Blanc 2023 is a fresh white Bordeaux from Entre Deux Mers, made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Muscadelle. The wine comes from Vignobles Buffeteau, a family business in the southern Entre Deux Mers, where modern cellar techniques are combined with a clear focus on aromatic fruit. Expect grapefruit, lime, green apple, tropical fruit, and a subtle mineral touch, with enough roundness to make the wine more versatile than a bone-dry Sauvignon Blanc.

Vineyards and region

Château Haut Dambert is located in the southern Entre Deux Mers, approximately 40 km southeast of Bordeaux.

Location / Origin: The vineyards are situated around Gornac and Castelviel, in the heart of Entre Deux Mers. This area lies between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers and is known for fresh, dry white Bordeaux.

Parcel: This white cuvée comes from an 11-hectare parcel. This scale is well-suited for a wine intended to bring together fruit, freshness, and recognizable Bordeaux expression.

Soil: Château Haut Dambert is located on the edge of an ancient limestone plateau with asteria limestone. This calcareous subsoil contributes to tension, freshness, and a subtle mineral impression.

Terroir: The terroir of Haut Dambert is warmer and more mineral than that of its sister château La Grande Métairie. This allows the grapes to build ripeness without losing their aromatic freshness.

Vineyard Management: Vignobles Buffeteau is HVE certified and works with attention to biodiversity, water management, and careful vineyard practices.

Vinification and aging

The vinification aims for aromatic freshness, pure fruit, and balance.

Harvest & Selection: The estate monitors the ripeness of the grapes parcel by parcel and sorts the harvest before picking. This ensures that only healthy and ripe fruit enters the cellar.

Fermentation: For white and rosé wines, Vignobles Buffeteau has a modern cellar with programmable temperature control. This helps to keep fresh aromas such as grapefruit, lime, and green apple clear.

Cellar Technique: The white wine cellar is designed for precision and aromatic control. This keeps the wine lively and pure, with a fresh, dry finish.

Grape composition

This white Entre Deux Mers combines 3 grape varieties.

Sauvignon Blanc – Entre Deux Mers: Sauvignon Blanc gives the wine its grapefruit, lime, fresh acidity, and tight aromatic base.

Sauvignon Gris – Entre Deux Mers: Sauvignon Gris is a grayish-pink mutation of Sauvignon Blanc and adds more aromatic richness, with notes of pineapple, lychee, and extra texture.

Muscadelle – Entre Deux Mers: Muscadelle brings roundness, softness, and a fuller mouthfeel to the blend.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

Greenish-yellow in the glass, with aromas of grapefruit, lime, green apple, apricot, tropical fruit, and a light mineral touch. The taste is fresh, round, and balanced, with lively acidity and juicy fruit. The finish is dry, clear, and refreshing.

Serving temperature: Serve this white Bordeaux at 10–12 °C, so that the citrus fruit, fresh acidity, and round structure remain beautifully balanced.

Dishes: Delicious with steamed fish, shellfish with light sauce, chicken, fresh salads, goat cheese, brie, and mild cheddar.

More information about Château Haut Dambert

Château Haut Dambert belongs to Vignobles Buffeteau, a family business that has been active in Entre Deux Mers for 4 generations. Jean Luc Buffeteau undertook his first vinifications in 1998 and brought experience as an oenologist and Bordeaux wine merchant to the family estate. This combination of family history, technical knowledge, and modern precision is clearly reflected in this Cuvée Clemence: fresh, aromatic, and approachable, but with enough Bordeaux character to hold its own at the dinner table.
