The château's origins date back to the 18th century, when Domaine de "Lagarde" already appeared on the "carte de Cassini," the first general map of France drawn by the Cassini family in 1756. The picturesque Charterhouse, built in 1732, was surrounded by valleys and forests at the time. The "Bourdieu de Lagarde" was then passed down through the Blanchard family until its purchase in 1877 by the Lacoste family, who traded in Bordeaux. Vines were cultivated on this beautiful stony terroir, and the winery was built in 1881. After the First World War, Louis Eschenauer, a well-known negotiator on the Place de Bordeaux at the "Chartrons," was searching for good quality vines in the Bordeaux region. He became interested in the vineyards surrounding the summit of Domaine de La Garde, which he subsequently purchased in 1920, and thus became the main proponent of the wines produced in the Martillac area, where he also owned Château Smith Haut Lafitte.

The harvest of the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon

This unique white wine from Château La Garde is grown in the Pessac-Léognan wine region. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon thrive here thanks to the cool climate in the vineyards. The vineyards are quite old, reaching thirty years, which contributes to their refined quality. Winemaker Frédéric Bonnaffous cultivates the grapes in various plots. This allows him to combine Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes after the hand harvest. The majority is reserved for Sauvignon Blanc, which accounts for almost ninety percent of this white wine. After pressing and blending, this white wine is aged for an impressive eight months in oak barrels. It also matures on the lees, creating a truly beautiful wine.

Full and very powerful this Chateau La Garde Pessac Leognan

It's a joy to drink, and this wine is a match for the best Sancerre wines or other renowned French wine regions. Upon pouring, we see a beautiful, clear color with green and gold highlights. It has a fantastic aroma, offering hints of citrus fruit subtly combined with mineral notes. On the palate, it's a sensation, with abundant citrus fruit richness and hints of green herbs. A swirling of the wine on the palate reveals hints of citrus fruit, freshly mown grass, crisp acidity, and rounded flavors of apple and pear. A wine with its own unique character, yet so beautifully crafted, and a wine for every wine lover.
