Château Lafleur Gazin 2017 Pomerol 0.375L, France
Château Lafleur Gazin 2017 0.375L is an elegant Pomerol in half-bottle format, made from 100% Merlot from a vineyard on the northern edge of the famous Pomerol plateau. Its location between Château Gazin and Château La Fleur Pétrus immediately gives this wine a strong provenance, while the Moueix team ensures a refined, accessible style with ripe fruit and silky tannins. Thanks to its 0.375L bottle, this is an excellent choice when you want to serve a serious Right Bank Bordeaux for a dinner for 1 or 2 people.
Vineyards and Region
Château Lafleur Gazin is located in Pomerol, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux.
Location / Origin: The vineyard is situated on the northern edge of the Pomerol plateau, between Château Gazin and Château La Fleur Pétrus. This part of Pomerol is known for Merlot with roundness, elegance, and refined structure.
Area: The estate covers 8.5 hectares. This compact size suits the precise style of Pomerol, where small differences in soil and plot significantly influence the wine.
Soil: The soil consists of gravel, clay, and silt. Gravel aids drainage, clay gives Merlot depth and roundness, and silt contributes to a smooth, accessible texture.
Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are an average of 30 years old, and the harvest took place from September 12th to 20th. The grapes showed ripeness, freshness, intense aromas of small black and blue fruits, and soft tannins in the skins.
Vintage: The vineyard largely escaped frost due to its location on the Pomerol plateau. Additional vineyard work, such as bud thinning, cluster thinning, and leaf removal, helped maintain even ripening.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification aims for softness, precision, and a smooth Pomerol structure.
Fermentation: Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. What is gentle extraction? Gentle extraction carefully draws out color, aroma, and tannins from the grape skins, giving the wine structure without losing its round Merlot character.
Aging / Oak Maturation: The wine ages for 16–18 months in French oak barrels, 30–40% of which are new. This aging provides extra roundness, subtle spiciness, and a polished tannin structure.
Grape Composition
This Pomerol is made entirely from Merlot.
100% Merlot – Pomerol: Merlot gives this wine its ripe plum, dark berries, soft texture, and silky tannins. On the gravel, clay, and silt soils of Lafleur Gazin, the grape develops a smooth, fleshier, and elegantly rounded Pomerol style.
Tasting Notes and Serving Tips
Deep ruby red in the glass, with aromas of plum, blackcurrant, cherry, tobacco, cedar, cocoa, and soft spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, juicy, and refined, with ripe red and dark fruit, round tannins, and fresh tension. The finish is smooth, spicy, and beautifully supported by ripe fruit.
Serving Temperature: Serve this Pomerol at 16–18 °C, allowing the ripe fruit, soft tannins, and subtle oak notes to harmonize beautifully.
Dishes: Excellent with duck breast, rack of lamb, entrecote, veal cheek, mushroom jus, truffle risotto, and aged cheeses.
