Château Soucherie Blanc Ivoire Anjou Blanc AOC
Château Soucherie Blanc Ivoire is the estate's signature Anjou Blanc, crafted on the schistose slopes surrounding the château in Beaulieu-sur-Layon. Chenin Blanc takes center stage here, fully expressing itself without blending in a pure, dry Loire Valley style. Blanc Ivoire is made as an organic Anjou Blanc, with careful attention to vineyard work and precise aging in oak barrels. The best way to enjoy Château Soucherie Blanc Ivoire? Serve it at around 10 to 12°C with refined dishes like sushi, grilled fish, or creamy French cheeses to experience its juicy, mineral style at its finest.
Vineyards and region
Château Soucherie Blanc Ivoire comes from France, from the Loire Valley, in the Anjou Blanc AOC region south of Angers. The estate has approximately 28 hectares of vineyards, 22 hectares of which surround the château on south-facing slopes with schist soils sheltered from the north wind. For Blanc Ivoire, the Chenin Blanc comes from plots with a subsoil of schist and loamy, sandy clay, with approximately 35% clay and a high proportion of red schist gravel in the topsoil. At a depth of 35 centimeters, weathered schist emerges, contributing to the distinct, mineral signature of this Anjou Blanc. The vines are densely planted, with 5,500 vines per hectare, and the vineyards are farmed organically without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
Vinification and maturation
The grapes for Blanc Ivoire are harvested entirely by hand and brought to the cellar in small 25-kilo crates, ensuring the bunches remain intact. Upon arrival, they are slowly and gently pressed in a pneumatic press to extract only the purest juice. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in 500-liter oak barrels, approximately 20% of which are new, allowing the wood to subtly fade into the background. The wine then matures for 12 months in barrels without racking, on its fine yeast layer, which adds roundness and complexity. Bottling takes place at the château, and Blanc Ivoire is ideally enjoyed between three and six years after harvest, when the fruit, structure, and oak aging are beautifully balanced.
Grape composition
Chenin Blanc – Blanc Ivoire, Anjou Blanc AOC
Blanc Ivoire is 100% Chenin Blanc, sourced from densely planted plots on schist and clay, allowing this classic Loire Valley grape to express its full, ripe yet refined character in a pure, unblended Anjou Blanc.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Château Soucherie Blanc Ivoire has a clear, pale yellow color with a subtle, shimmering hue. The nose reveals relatively ripe aromas of blossom and tropical fruit, complemented by a hint of ripe stone fruit and a fine, mineral undertone. The palate offers a round and concentrated profile with a juicy texture, mild acidity, and a precise balance between ripe notes and refinement. The finish is long, clean, and slightly saline, giving the wine plenty of tension both on its own and at the table. Serve Blanc Ivoire between 10 and 12°C (50 and 54°F) and pair it with sushi, grilled or pan-fried fish, shellfish, or creamy cheeses such as Brie de Meaux and aged Cantal.
