About the Domain
Château Suduiraut, classified as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, is a historic winery known for its dedication to quality and tradition. The estate extends over 200 hectares, 92 of which are planted with vines on sandy-clay soils. These soils, combined with the unique microclimate, promote the development of noble rot, essential for the production of their renowned Sauternes wines. With the Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec, the château demonstrates its versatility by producing a dry white wine that emphasizes the freshness and minerality of the terroir.
Vineyard and Terroir
The grapes for Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec come from specific parcels within the estate, planted with Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sauvignon Gris. The average age of the vines is 20 years, which contributes to the wine's complexity and depth. The sandy clay soils and favorable microclimate provide optimal ripening conditions, resulting in grapes with a perfect balance of sugar and acidity.
Vinification
The harvest for the dry white wines began on August 24th, with a careful selection of the best grapes. After harvest, the Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris undergo a pellicula maceration of 2 to 12 hours to enhance their aromatic expression. The grapes are then gently pressed in a pneumatic press for approximately 2.5 hours. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (70%) and French oak barrels (30%). The wine is aged for 6 months on the fine lees, with regular bâtonnage to enhance its texture and complexity.
