Description
Christoph Clusserath Schiefer Riesling Mosel
On the steep slate slopes of Trittenheimer Apotheke, Christoph Clusserath crafts a Riesling with precision, tension, and elegance. Blue Devon slate retains warmth and imparts that recognizable, salty-mineral signature. What does "Schiefer" on the label mean? German for slate, the soil that provides that fine minerality and energy. We tasted the recent vintage at Perfectewijn and were immediately charmed by its drinkability and pure style.
Vineyards and region
The grapes come from Germany, Mosel, on the steep slopes of Trittenheimer Apotheke. Blue Devon slate produces low yields and a high level of precision in aroma and flavor. The slope allows for optimal sun exposure and ripening without adding weight. This results in a Riesling with vibrant fruit and a distinct mineral note.
Vinification and maturation
After rigorous pre-selection, the grapes are given additional aging time on the vine and harvested by hand. In the cellar, the wine ferments cooled with natural yeasts and is allowed to mature. The philosophy is "controlled inactivity," with the belief that good wine is made in the vineyard. No insecticides are used, and alternative organic methods are employed. The modest 11.5% alcohol emphasizes the fresh, drinkable style, finished with Stelvin for optimal freshness.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Light straw yellow. Peach and apricot on the nose with a refined, salty-mineral undertone. Fruity and dry on the palate with well-integrated acidity, plenty of tension, and a delicate, typical Mosel signature. Long, refreshing finish. Versatile at the table, excellent with steamed fish, shellfish, or pasta with light sauces. Also lovely as an aperitif. Popular with lovers of sleek, minerally Rieslings with precision.
