In the Spanish wine region of Bierzo, the beautiful winery Bodega del Abad produces this white wine. The inspiration for these wines comes from the magnificent Carracedo Monastery, founded by Bermudo II "El Gotoso" in 990. The monastery is located just a stone's throw from the vineyards and winery of Bodega del Abad. The ancient monastery is renowned throughout the region, and elements of it are reflected in the label. Over the years, the winery has invested heavily in its old vineyards, modern winemaking techniques, and a completely renovated winery. This allows them to produce top-quality wine using modern techniques while preserving the ancient Spanish winemaking traditions.

The old Godello vineyard in Bierzo

For this white wine from Cima Bella, Godello grapes are used, grown on 25-year-old vines in Bierzo. The vineyard boasts a unique microclimate, thanks to the combination of Atlantic and Mediterranean continental climates. This allows the Godello to grow freely and absorb everything from the rich soil structure. Due to the vineyard's altitude of 550 meters, the nights are very cool, allowing the Godello to cool off after a hot summer day. This preserves ample freshness in the grapes, which we taste in this white Cima Bella. Once the grapes are ripe, they are harvested entirely by hand; only the finest bunches are used and picked. This results in a final juice of inestimable purity. After pressing, the entire wine is aged on the lees for an impressive two months, making it fuller and creamier.

The smell and taste of the Cima Bella Godello Bierzo

Winemaker Ramiro Carbajo is incredibly proud of the result. Ramiro was once one of the winemakers who elevate the Pago de Carraovejas winery to unparalleled heights. And he's now well on his way to making this Cima Bella a similarly successful wine. The celebration begins upon opening the bottle, as we smell powerful aromas of ripe fruit and aniseed, with floral notes in the background. The yellow color sparkles in the glass and also releases aromas of citrus, grapefruit, and a hint of green herbs. On the palate, a refined wine with light acidity that makes everything very exciting. Ripe fruit nuances with a touch of lime and fresh mint leaves. Fragrant aromas of ripe fruit and aniseed, with floral notes in the background. The finish is very delicate with just the right amount of freshness, well-balanced, bringing joy. Joy indeed, what a delightful glass of wine!
