Although Grenache grapes are widely planted in Valreas, Southern Rhône, Stéphane Vedeau has chosen this time for a red wine in which Syrah takes center stage. Thanks to the high altitude and cool climate, Syrah also thrives in this region. The Les Echalas Rouge is a balanced wine with just the right amount of power and elegance.
Manual harvest for Clos Bellane Valreas Les Echalas Rouge
The Clos Bellane wine estate, located in the south of Valreas, was acquired by winemaker Stéphane Vedeau in 2010. It covers 48 hectares of vineyards, with each plot meticulously cultivated. The vines benefit from a particularly cool climate at an altitude of 410 meters, offering stunning panoramic views. Grenache is by far the most widely planted, supplemented by Syrah, Roussane, Marssane, and Viognier. The winemaking process naturally plays a key role in Clos Bellane's high-quality wines. Continuous innovation is underway, and modern vinification methods are employed in the cellar. The grapes are harvested rigorously and entirely by hand at optimum ripeness. A second selection then takes place in the winery. The hand-picked grapes undergo eight weeks of skin fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels to develop additional roundness and aromas. After the necessary rest, the wine is bottled unfiltered and we can enjoy this red pearl.
Enjoy the balanced Les Echalas Rouge
The Les Echalas Rouge from Valreas is a dark red wine that radiates incredible brilliance in the glass. The nose is distinctly cherry, with hints of blackberry, complemented by smoky coffee notes. The wine is full-bodied and powerful on the palate, wonderfully balanced and with just the right amount of complexity. Fine, soft tannins round it out, and the finish is intense and long.
