The wine world was briefly turned upside down when Colombelle received the Best Buy's Wine Enthusiast award for the second time in a row. The streamers were hung, the result of a feat of craftsmanship by the grand master Plaimont. The Plaimont cooperative, located in the south of France, now boasts over a thousand winegrowers. This ensures that their expertise in cultivating the finest grapes is at the highest level.
The old vineyard of Colombelle
Merlot and Tannat grapes are combined for this beautiful red wine from Colombelle. It's a truly phenomenal blend, crafted for its smoothness and drinkability. Colombelle's old vineyards are located in the heart of the Cotes de Gascogne region. Wine has been produced on these lands for years, and this is reflected in the ripe harvest. The Merlot and Tannat grapes enjoy ample sunshine as well as the cool breeze, resulting in a calm and consistent growing season. Both grapes are harvested separately and rigorously selected, ensuring only the finest juice makes it into this bottle.
The aroma and taste of the red Colombelle wine
Upon opening the bottle, we smelled all the refined red and black fruit. In the glass, it gave our senses all the stimulation they needed, revealing a ruby red color that sparkled in the glass. Nosing the glass, we detected a wide range of fruit notes, including blackberries, currants, and ripe cherries. Later, as we swirled the glass, we also noted hints of spice and vanilla. The palate is perfect, with ripe tannins, soft fruit nuances, and a touch of spice that rounded it all out. This Colombelle red wine is a delight for any wine lover.
