The Malbec grape has been embraced by Argentine winemakers. And it's not just the Argentinians themselves who are huge fans of this spirited grape; the whole world is crazy about Malbec wines from Argentina. It is truly the pride of this South American country. It produces unparalleled wines, and this Colome Malbec is no exception. Colome's history is long and impressive. The first vines were planted by the Davalos family as early as 1831. For exactly 170 years, they held sway over one of Argentina's oldest wineries. Since 2001, the renowned Hess family has been at the helm. They invested in Colome. Today, Colome is not only one of Argentina's oldest wineries but also one of its finest.

The old vineyard in Calchaqui

When you think of Argentina, Mendoza often immediately comes to mind. It's true, this wine region produces absolutely beautiful wines. However, it's such a shame; there are so many other beautiful wine regions. Take, for example, Calchaqui Valley, home to the Bodega y Estancia Colome winery. They have embraced the strength of this region and now produce arguably the finest wines in the area. They also invest in sustainability and are mindful of nature. They look beyond the final product, and that's unique. The Malbec grapes for this Colome Malbec are grown in Argentina's highest vineyards. Some grapes grow at an altitude of as high as 3,000 meters! It's precisely this altitude that adds extra quality to the already excellent wines of the Colome winery.

Nuances in Colome Malbec

When our oenologists first tasted this red wine, the versatility of Colome Malbec was particularly striking. It's not flat at all, and boasts exceptional depth, which is quite remarkable in this price range. Pour it. Preferably choose a larger, wider glass to allow the aromas of this Argentinian red wine to flow freely. Swirl the Colome Malbec in the glass, and refined aromas of blackcurrant immediately emerge. A single sniff, and the wine also reveals red fruit and a hint of blossom. A subtle peppery note reveals a full 15 months of aging in French oak barrels. Time to take a sip. Mouth-filling! You taste so much: dark and red fruit. Lively acidity on the palate, delicate spiciness on the palate. Sweet spices combined with ripe fruit notes create the necessary tension. The peppery note completes the Colome Malbec. An Argentinian sensation we can't get enough of.
