Coto Real Reserva is a red wine from DO Rioja produced by El Coto de la Rioja.
This wine is produced primarily from Tempranillo, with small percentages from Mazuelo and Garnacha Tinta. The grapes are sourced from old vines with high quality potential in Rioja Alta.
Rioja wines of pure class
El Coto was founded in 1970 in the Rioja region by a group of winegrowers with a single goal: to produce the finest Rioja wine at a premium price. With this in mind, they began this collaboration, and it proved a path to success. The wines were acclaimed and won numerous international awards, which was inevitable given the cooperative's magnificent vineyards. Since then, Coto has grown into a significant and large winery, now owning over 700 hectares of vineyards. Many more winegrowers have joined in recent years. In short, Rioja wines of pure class.
20 months of aging for Coto Real Reserva Rioja
The grapes are harvested and placed in 350kg crates; they are stored until they reach the winery, where they are then selected from a sorting table. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place in small, 100hl stainless steel tanks with daily pumping and long maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels. They have selected various types of barrels of specific origin, including toasted and cooper barrels, which undoubtedly contributes to the wine's complexity. The aging process takes place in barrel for 20 months. There is no filtration, and the wine is then refined in bottle for two years before release.
The wine has a deep cherry color on the nose with notes of plums, figs, and jam. It's exceptionally delicate and complex on the palate, with aromas of red and black currants, spices, and dark chocolate. Hints of tobacco, coffee, truffle, and vanilla complete the flavor explosion. Well-balanced with a powerful structure and creamy tannins. The finish reveals notes of pepper, walnut, and roasted meat.
