What a gem of a red wine this Cum Laude from Castello Banfi! Made with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, which are then aged together in oak barrels. This makes this Cum Laude Castello Banfi full-bodied and powerful, with a rich, rich aroma.
The Castello Banfi wine estate
Banfi was founded in 1978 by the Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani. From the outset, the two brothers' goal was to create a state-of-the-art winery, combined with the most advanced vineyard science for the production of premium wines. Today, it is a remarkable estate with an estate of no less than 2,830 hectares, of which 800 hectares are planted with vineyards. This makes Castello Banfi by far the largest and most important producer of Brunello di Montalcino. The estate is dominated by a beautifully restored medieval castle. The Mariani family acquired the estate in 1978, and since then, they have dedicated their wines to the highest levels of the DOC.
Long-term wood education for the Cum Laude
The grapes for this Cum Laude come from the estate vineyards located on the southern slopes of Montalcino. The Syrah grapes come from vineyards at 120 meters above sea level, and the Sangiovese grapes come from vineyards at 230 meters. Each grape undergoes a separate cold maceration. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation, which lasts approximately two days. Malolatic fermentation and aging in oak barrels follow for six months. After this, the blend is created. The wine is then aged for another six months in oak, after which it is bottled and aged for another six months in the bottle.
Full and very powerful this Banfi Cum Laude Castello
The aroma is powerful and robust, with plenty of black fruit notes of cherries, berries, plums, and a hint of raisin. The palate is also truly beautiful; what an incredibly ripe, full-bodied wine. We discovered hints of black fruit, cherries, laurel, and a hint of cocoa in this Cum Laude Castello Banfi. There's also a touch of toast and vanilla.
