First released in 1993, this aromatic wine was named d'Arry's Original in honor of third-generation family member Francis d'Arenberg Osborn, commonly known as d'Arry, to commemorate his lifelong service to the wine industry.
Increase in quality wines from d'Arenberg
In 1912, Joseph Osborn purchased several established vineyards planted in the previous century. A few years later, the cellars were built, and it was time to start selling the wines throughout the country. In the late 1950s, d'Arry Osborn took control of the winery. His enormous flair and focus on quality brought considerable recognition to the d'Arenberg winery, one of the first cult wines on the Australian market. The distinctive color scheme—a red diagonal stripe—gave the brand a significant boost in the market. By maintaining an emphasis on traditional winemaking and nurturing their old vines, the Osborn clan successfully established itself as one of the leading producers of concentrated wines with character.
The blend consists of Shiraz and Grenache. The grapes are gently crushed and fermented in large open cement vats. The wine is then basket-pressed and transferred to new and used French oak barriques to complete fermentation. The barrel ferments are aged on the lees. This wine undergoes no fining or filtration before bottling, ensuring maximum preservation of the aromas.
A very aromatic and full-bodied wine from d'Arenberg
This wine is highly aromatic, with lovely red fruit and exotic spices. The palate is medium-bodied and delightful, with flavors of wild strawberry, dried cranberry, and rhubarb. There are some lovely nuances of dried herbs and spices in this wine, supported by decent amounts of acidity and tannin. Fresh and lively now, this wine will mellow with age.
