Da Maggio is a bright, modern style of Chardonnay with a delicious balance of freshness, ripeness, and zip. It is made by Poderi dal Nespoli, a modern, environmentally conscious winery in the Bidente Valley in Romagna, near the cooling Adriatic coast and across the Apennines from Tuscany. This estate was founded in 1929 by Attilio Ravaioli, and the fourth generation of the family is now at the helm. They own 110 hectares and follow every wine from bud to bottle. Their new cellar is an impressive, state-of-the-art facility, designed to be environmentally friendly. The team uses cutting-edge technology while also applying traditions passed down through generations.
The vinification of Da Maggio Chardonnay
This Da Maggio is made from 100% Chardonnay. The grapes come from chalky clay soils in the Bidente Valley. After being hand-harvested, the grapes are macerated for about eight hours and then pressed. The juice is fermented in oak barrels. The wine then matures on the fermenting racks for five months with regular batonnage (circulating the yeast cells). This adds complexity, roundness, and imparts notes of vanilla and toast thanks to the oak aging.
The smell and taste of Poderi dal Nespoli Da Maggio Chardonnay
Da Maggio Chardonnay is one of the top wines from the Nespolino winery. Its straw-yellow color suggests this is a wonderfully full-bodied glass of Chardonnay. The aroma of this white wine offers beautiful aromas of honey, tropical fruit, and toasted vanilla. The mouthfeel is simply fantastic! Perfectly balanced and very smooth. The oak aging is delightfully present, with lovely creamy vanilla notes interspersed with hints of tropical fruit, honey, and a fresh touch on the back of the tongue. The finish is sultry, full, and wonderfully long. It pairs perfectly with oily fish dishes and salads.
