Crafted by the ever-reliable De Bortoli crew, the "Family Selection" wines are the wines De Bortoli has been enjoying midweek at the dinner table for three generations. From some of their South Australian vineyards, this is a medium-bodied Shiraz with a touch of Cabernet. An accessible, easy-drinking style that appeals to almost everyone.
The continued growth of De Bortoli
The De Bortoli winery was founded in 1928 by Italian immigrants who traveled to Australia in the 1920s. Initially, they focused on cultivating various crops, but viticulture soon followed. They began with Shiraz grapes, and to this day, this grape remains important to the family and the Australian wine industry as a whole. Since then, the winery has continued to grow and has acquired vineyards in various wine regions. They produce wines in the Riverina, Yarra Valley, King Valley, and Hunter Valley. De Bortoli wines are enjoyed and appreciated worldwide, and it has become one of the largest and best wineries.
The Shiraz grapes are only harvested when they are perfectly ripe, have a good structure, and have developed their fine qualities. After harvest, a strict selection process follows, as only the finest juice is good enough for the Bortoli family. This is followed by seven days of fermentation on the skins at 23 to 27 degrees Celsius. Both American and French oak barrels are used for maceration. The result is astonishing!
Cheers with this De Bortoli Family Selection Shiraz
An attractive Shiraz with intoxicating aromas of red berries, cranberries, dried flowers, and a spicy tonic note. The palate boasts refined tannins and juicy fruit. Ripe plums, blackcurrants, and exotic spices are revealed on the palate, along with a touch of vanilla thanks to its oak aging. This Shiraz pairs beautifully with barbecue, pizza, or pasta.
