What a delicious dessert wine! This wine is considered one of the finest botristis wines available worldwide. Created in 1982, it remains one of the most awarded wines in history.
The different quality levels of De Bortoli
De Bortoli Winery is one of Australia's largest wineries still family-owned. They produce a wide range of wines in the Riverina, Yarra Valley, King Valley, and Hunter Valley. The winery was founded in 1928 by an Italian immigrant couple. Their wines range in quality, from simple, generic blends to prestigious terroir wines. Currently, the third generation is at the helm. Winemaker Steve Webber (son-in-law) has received much praise for his distinctive style. The Family Selection is a celebration of their Italian roots, planted in Australian soil. The wines are highly regarded both nationally and internationally.
The Riverina district—which often experiences damp autumns—is prone to Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble rot. The vineyards, located near Yenda and Bilbul, are planted on medium to heavy clay loams and have successfully maintained high moisture levels between the vines, promoting botrytis. The best locations were found in "sinks" where fog lingers. A retro Vintage from Noble One. A throwback to the wines of the mid-1980s with higher alcohol and slightly less sugar. Wines of incredible depth and energy. The grapes from each vineyard are harvested, fermented, and aged separately. The wine is aged for a total of 12 months in French oak barrels to ensure that the nuances of each vineyard's flavors are captured.
A brilliant dessert wine full of flavour
This dessert wine is a brilliant pale gold in color. It has an intense nose with spicy cinnamon, yellow peaches, French nougat aromas, and a hint of burnt syrup. The palate is rich, powerful, and impossibly long with flavors of peaches and barley sugar, all kept in check by a deft acidity. A wine that can be enjoyed on its own with a fantastic cheese and fruit platter. But also try it with freshly shucked oysters or foie gras.
