The Gras Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious wine that we've had in our collection for years. Perhaps this wine is better known as Montgras? These wines have been given a new look, and with it, a new name. Of course, the quality we've come to expect from this Chilean winery remains unchanged. Brothers Hernán and Eduardo Gras partnered in 1993 to establish Montgras. Hernán had years of experience in wine and winemaking in Canada, and Eduardo had a commercial background. This combination proved successful, as the winery has since grown into one of Chile's finest.
The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest from De Gras
The Gras Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the brothers' most successful wines. The grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon are grown in the Colchagua Valley, Chile's premier wine valley. The grapes thrive in a perfect climate, with warm sunshine during the day that transforms into a fresh breeze in the evening. Added to this is the natural protection of the Andes. All these factors ensure the grapes can grow carefree. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested entirely by hand in April. This ensures a strict selection process to ensure the grapes reach the perfect ripeness for this Chilean red wine. After vinification, the wine is aged for several months in stainless steel vats. This preserves the wine's youth and pleasant fruitiness.
The aroma and taste of De Gras Cabernet
After pouring this wine, we first appreciate its beautiful, deep ruby-red color with a purple rim. The aroma offers lovely hints of cherries and berries, complemented by a subtle hint of mocha and spice. This red wine has a wonderfully full structure on the palate. The flavor offers rich and ripe nuances of cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, figs, and prunes. The finish is full and robust, yet with plenty of soft fruit notes. Enjoying this wine with a meal? Think of a delicious BBQ or game.
