Silky soft, like a down comforter, or velvety are all very short but certainly powerful descriptions of this delicious De Gras Estate Merlot! This gem is made exclusively from Merlot grapes from the warm Colchagua Valley. Here, the warm climate during the day and the cool climate at night allow the grapes to grow peacefully and peacefully. The winemakers minimize the use of pesticides, ensuring the grapes are exceptionally pure. The hand-harvesting of these grapes is also evident in the grapes' high regard. This harvest takes place very early in the morning because that's when the grapes are in optimal condition. After harvesting, the grapes are placed in small crates of no more than 10 kg to prevent unnecessary bruising and then taken to the press. To preserve the wine's softness, this Merlot is aged for several months in stainless steel vats.
What does the De Gras Merlot taste like?
Just tasting it, we were impressed by the beautiful, deep, dark purple color. The aroma reveals sultry aromas of ripe black cherries, currants, and ripe blackberries. A light hint of spice lingers on the finish. As mentioned, the palate is silky smooth. The velvety mouthfeel unfolds with flavors of blackberries and ripe cherries, a light hint of blackcurrant, and a subtle peppery note on the back of the tongue. The finish is intense and warm, perfectly rounding off this Chilean red wine. Prefer to pair this gem with food? Think of nice, soft cheeses or red meat that isn't overly seasoned.
Owners Hernán and Eduardo Gras are also fans of this red wine. They founded Viña Montgras in 1993. They wanted to make beautiful wines for Chileans.
