Description

After much development, a Dutch oak-aged white wine has finally arrived! It's definitely worth the wait! De Kleine Schorre in Schouwen-Duiveland has created a blend of Pinot Gris and Auxerrois, aged for an impressive nine months in barriques. This gives it its distinctive flavor and aroma.

The vineyards of the Kleine Schorre

The De Kleine Schorre adventure began in 2001. In collaboration with the renowned Luxembourg winery Cep d'Or, they succeeded in establishing a winery that surprises with its strong wines. The choice of grape varieties is based on several criteria. Among other things, the wines must seamlessly complement what Zeeland has to offer, namely fish. The choice was therefore quickly made for Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Rivaner, and Auxerrois. Today, the winery has 10 hectares of vineyards. While Dutch wine is not yet well-known abroad, it is rapidly gaining popularity. This is partly due to the low export volume. We mainly drink Dutch wines in the Netherlands itself. And that's not surprising. The quality of wines like De Kleine Schorre is also exceptionally high!

The scent and taste of De Kleine Schorre Schouwen Duiveland Barrique

A beautifully rich and rounded oak-aged white wine. 50 percent of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, which creates a softer mouthfeel. In the barrel, the wine remains in contact with its lees to enhance its richness. Winemaker Johan van de Velde carefully monitors the entire vinification process to prevent the wine from becoming too rich and dense. He doesn't over-batonnage the wine, but leaves the yeast alone. The acidity comes from the Pinot Blanc, and the richness is thanks to the Pinot Gris. A fantastic wine! On the nose, we detected abundant yellow fruit notes such as peach, mango, and apricots, complemented by a touch of vanilla and citrus. The oak aging is clearly noticeable on the palate, with plenty of ripe fruit, vanilla, oak, and the indigestible apples and limes. What a fantastic wine!
