The vines for this Delas Gigondas grow in a southern climate, hot and dry, with an average of 2,800 hours of sunshine per year. The soils consist primarily of red clay and stony alluvium, spread over hillsides or wide terraces. The ideal combination for ripening grapes. The blend for this red wine consists of 80 percent Grenache and 20 percent Syrah. A wine with a uniquely powerful, full flavor!

Completely manual harvest for Delas wines

For over 180 years, Delas Frères has been producing the finest wines from vineyards in the northern Rhône Valley. Their approach is based on the quality of the terroirs, a characteristic of the winery and its special vineyard selections from this region. Delas cultivates ten hectares on the Hermitage Hill, seventeen hectares in Crozes-Hermitage, and two hectares in Saint-Joseph. The Syrah, Marsanne, and Roussanne grape varieties are planted on the steep, granite slopes of the Hermitage Hill. These grapes are harvested entirely by hand. At the initiative of Fabrice Rosset, who took over the management of Delas in 1996, significant investments were made. A new press room was built, the cellars were renovated, and new vineyards were purchased, thus increasing storage capacity. In the years that followed, the winery became a household name and a favorite among wine lovers.

Twelve months of maturation for Delas Gigondas

The grapes are harvested by hand. After crushing and destemming, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for ten days. This is followed by eight to ten days of maceration to enhance extraction. After decanting and pressing, malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks. The wine is pickled and aerated to stabilize the ingredients. It is then stored in tanks to preserve the freshness of the aromas before being bottled after 12 months of aging. The color is a deep garnet red. The aroma reveals distinct black cherry aromas, which, with age, evolve into notes of coppice, forest, and black olives. The palate is warm and heady, with a rounded and silky texture. The finish is perfectly balanced. This wine is perfect for a meal and pairs particularly well with rich sauces, game, red meat, and other dishes.
