Delas Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes

This Delas Hermitage is a blend of three different terroirs: L'Ermite, le Sabot, and the famous parcel, les Bessards. It is made entirely of Syrah grapes.

The history of the leading winery Delas

The Delas winery was founded in 1835 by Delas Freres. In the 1960s, Delas Frères was one of the leading wineries in the Rhône, with its own vineyards in Hermitage, Cornas, Côte Rôtie, and Condrieu. Today, Delas Freres owns the top vineyards. The steep granite slopes provide optimal growing conditions. Here, the grapes ripen perfectly, resulting in high-quality wines. At the initiative of Fabrice Rosset, who took over the management of Delas in 1996, significant investments were made. A new press room was added, the cellars were renovated, and new vineyards were purchased, expanding storage capacity. In the years that followed, the winery became a household name and a favorite among wine lovers. All grapes for the "Domaine des Tourettes" cuvée are hand-picked, depending on the appropriate ripeness in each terroir. Fermentation takes place in traditional open-top concrete tanks after two days of pre-fermentation skin contact at cool temperatures. Maceration continues at controlled temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. The daily cap pressing and pumping over takes place for approximately ten days, with a total vatting period of up to twenty days.

A red wine with powerful flavors

The wine then matures for one to three years in old oak barrels. Nine percent of the barrels are replaced annually. The low yield per hectare is also remarkable, at only 40hl/ha. This gives the wine a complex and creamy aroma, with hints of black currant, smoke, spice, leather, and black olives. The taste of this Delas Hermitage is powerful yet silky smooth, with a fairly strong tannic structure, a hallmark of this wine.
