Domaine de Joy is a winery that has been established for a century in one of France's most underrated wine regions: Cotes de Gascogne. However, it was founder Paul Gessner who was charmed by the region surrounding Armagnac, at the time one of the most popular distillates in the world. This pater familias of the Swiss family decided to move to the Cotes de Gascogne. Now, four generations later, the estate has set its sights on high-quality wines. Naturally, Domaine de Joy also decided to produce a wine from Gros Manseng, the pride of Gascony. The wines of Domaine de Joy

The name Joy is typical of this winery. The Gessner family has been happily growing grapes here for four generations. This Swiss dynasty has clearly made its mark in the Cotes de Gascogne region. Initially, it produced Armagnac, but the last two generations have primarily ensured that the wines themselves have also gained a foothold. Yet, they have not denied their roots, and 10% of the total 170 hectares of vineyards are still reserved for Armagnac production.

The Gros Manseng is a rather unusual grape. Its high fruit content and residual sugars make it a particularly good complement to sweet wines (although it also handles dry wines well). It has found a clear home in the Cotes de Gascogne. The soil, rich in clay and silt, combined with the Atlantic wind and the protection to the south provided by the Pyrenees, allows the Gros Manseng to develop wonderfully.
