The plot for this Vin de Pays is located in Bussiere. This wine is a pleasant surprise, delivering an explosion of power, fruit, and concentration! Excellently balanced. The vines are over forty years old. Some plots contain vines over eighty years old. All wines are made in the traditional way and are distinguished by their combination of power and finesse.

The Rhône's most famous winery

Domaine de la Janasse is one of the most renowned wineries in the southern Rhône. Its red wines are often considered the best in the southern Rhône in the trade press, and that's no coincidence: old vines, some over 100 years old, organic vineyard management, small yields, spontaneous fermentation in the cellar, aging exclusively in large, old wooden barrels, and bottling after the moon phase (!) without filtration—what sounds like a blueprint for great red wines, indeed, produces spectacular results in the bottles of this exceptional winemaker.

The vinification of Domaine de la Janasse Terre de Bussiere

The vines are grown on a very challenging soil of gravel, sand, and large boulders. The vines are only forty years old. This results in low yields, but also in a high degree of concentration. Because of the challenging soil conditions, the grapes can only be harvested by hand. This Terre de Bussiere possesses an attractive combination of power and finesse. The grapes are rigorously selected after harvest. Maceration takes place, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. To give the wine depth and structure, the Terre de Bussiere is aged for twelve months in oak barrels, 30% new. The vines for this blend of Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon grow near the town of Bussière on gravelly alluvial soil. The fact that Merlot plays a dominant role, at approximately 55 percent, is particularly noticeable in the rich, fruity, velvety structure, which is carried by the typical Garrique notes of southern France.
