Langlois Saumur Blanc Clos Saint Florent (Saumur AOC)

A Saumur that skillfully combines finesse and depth. With Clos Saint Florent, Langlois demonstrates how Chenin Blanc can be both lively and creamy on chalky soils. This is the signature of a historic house that has excelled in Loire Valley wines since 1885 and is part of Société Jacques Bollinger. The style is precise, intense, and gastronomically appealing.

Vineyards and region

Clos Saint Florent is a 15-hectare, walled vineyard situated behind and near the château and above the Langlois cellars. The grapes come from the best plots around Saumur, including Clos Saint Florent and Dampierre-sur-Loire. The soil consists of chalk, sand, and clay, and the vines are over 35 years old. This terroir produces tension, ripe yellow fruit, and a refined, salty undertone typical of Saumur.

Vinification and maturation

The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed a few hours after picking. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, with approximately 20 to 30 percent new wood used for extra layering. The wine then matures for 12 months on the fine lees. What exactly does lees aging do? The young wine rests on its fine yeast deposits, increasing texture and creaminess without losing freshness. According to Terra Vitis, Langlois pays close attention to nature and soil, which enhances purity in the glass.
