Looking for a delicious and classic Muscat wine? Look no further! Originally from Germany, Claus Schlumberger left Germany for France in the eighteenth century to start a new life. This tanner settled in the beautiful village of Guebwiller. However, Claus felt uneasy there because the village was dominated by monks. He decided to move again, ending up in Mulhouse, a Protestant city with a free and open environment. It was there that he met his wife, and they had no fewer than nine children. One of Claus's sins was Nicolas, who took over the business in 1810. He planted twenty hectares of vineyards and modernized the family cellar. Today, Domaines Schlumberger remains family-owned, and it will certainly remain so for a long time to come, thanks to this driven and passionate family.

Classic white Alsace wine

Today, the Domaines is once again located in Guebwiller. As a tribute to the monks, this white wine has been given the name Les Princes Abbes, the princes of the abbey. Well, this Muscat certainly is a prince. The grapes for this white wine come from two different plots: the Bollenberg plot and the Bux plot. Muscat is difficult to grow and requires considerable attention during the growing season. Because this grape is difficult to cultivate, there is a good chance that some vintages will not be released. The wines are only released when the winemaker approves the harvest and the wine. If the grapes survive the growing season well, the quality is often excellent. The harvest is then harvested entirely by hand, after which the pressing and vinification take place. The result, after all the effort, is truly stunning.

The taste of this Schlumberger Muscat

Did we mention this Muscat was a truly special wine? Well, it certainly is. When we removed the cork and carefully poured the wine, we saw a beautiful, fresh, almost youthful yellow color. Nosing the glass, we noted lovely aromas of citrus, ginger, green herbs, and some exotic fruit. Then came the taste: wonderfully fresh and crisply dry. Just as we recognize a Muscat. The delicious citrus flavor nuances are balanced by the exotic fruit. The green herbs give this white wine from Alsace a bit more bite, making it a truly magnificent wine.
