Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Blanc

With this renowned white wine made from the Pinot Blanc grape, Domaines Schlumberger conquered the world. The founder of this family winery, Claus Schlumberger, a German, arrived in Alsace from Germany in the sixteenth century. He settled in the town of Guebwiller, but he couldn't enjoy his place for long, as the region was dominated by the Princes Abbés monks. He moved to another town, where he passed his estate on to his son, Nicolas Schlumberger. In 1810, he built wine cellars and purchased a twenty-hectare vineyard that would later produce his renowned wines. Nicolas also had many children—nine to be precise—with Jean Schlumberger taking over the reins from his father. The family's love for Alsace runs strong, and today, everything is still run by the Schlumberger family.

The Pinot Blanc harvest

The vineyards for this Pinot Blanc are primarily located in Saering & Spiegel, as well as in Bux and Bollenberg. Thanks to the diverse plots, the wine is always consistent, and the winemaker receives unique grapes. The perfect climate in the vineyards provides the harvest with plenty of sunshine and coolness. This coolness comes from the wind and the sharply falling nighttime temperatures. This allows the Pinot Blanc grapes to grow evenly and ripen beautifully. The Pinot Blanc harvest is harvested entirely by hand and strictly controlled. This Pinot Blanc then matures for an impressive seven months on the lees in the cellars of Domaines Schlumberger. And that's what sets it apart from any other Pinot Blanc! Full-bodied and highly aromatic.

Pouring this Schlumberger Pinot Blanc reveals a beautiful, clear color with green highlights. The aroma offers a fantastic, rich bouquet of apple, citrus fruits (lemon), and a light floral hint of white flowers. The palate is fantastic, a beautiful, classic Pinot Blanc style, with refreshing flavors of apple, pear, and lime on the palate, along with a touch of grapefruit. Later, as the wine settles, we also detect subtle nuances of citrus and broom. The finish is long and refreshing, with all the wonderful characteristics of the Pinot Blanc grape.
