Love, a long history, and above all, strength—that's what the Domaines Schlumberger family winery stands for. An Alsace wine, but one for connoisseurs, because these wines are so full of love. It all began in the sixteenth century when former tanner and textile merchant Claus Schlumberger left Germany to build a better future in France. He first arrived in Guebwiller, but the town was dominated by monks known as "The Princes Abbés." Claus didn't feel at home and moved to Mulhouse, a free and Protestant city. He married and had many children, including the birth of his son, Nicolas Schlumberger. In 1810, he purchased a twenty-hectare vineyard and built a large wine cellar. The family let go of the old business and continued to produce the finest Alsace wines. Today, the family still works together to uphold the reputation. And yes, we can taste that in, among other things, the white Pinot Gris.

The harvest of the Pinot Gris

What makes this Pinot Gris so special? Well, it all starts with the vineyard. Located in the heart of Alsace, it's filled with Pinot Gris grapes. The soil for the vines is primarily volcanic, allowing the plants to draw considerable strength from the soil. This Pinot Gris is primarily produced in Schimberg, in the Guebwiller valley, where the sun shines. After a long, undisturbed growing season, all the grapes are harvested by hand and individually inspected. Only the finest Pinot Gris bunches are used for Domaines Schlumberger. Direct pressing follows, and the entire wine is aged on the lees for at least eight months, making it more powerful and refined than its competitors.

Full and very powerful this Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Gris

It's simply a joy to drink. Open the bottle and you'll immediately smell a powerful aroma of apple, quince, and a touch of honey. Upon pouring, we know for sure: a top Alsace wine made from the Pinot Gris grape. The beautiful yellow color indicates its power. On the nose, this white wine takes you on a journey of discovery, revealing many nuances of ripe tropical fruit, very ripe red apple, and some citrus notes. On the palate, it's enchanting, offering a soft mouthfeel with some ripe fruit notes. The light sparkling note adds a very exciting touch, with flavors of grapefruit, honey, apple, and autumn fruit. The soft and especially ripe finish leaves a true Pinot Gris feeling in the aftertaste.
