Dow's history is very long, as they have been producing the finest ports for over two centuries. All their ports are made using grapes from the Upper Douro Valley, where the best grapes grow. The Symington family has owned this beautiful port house for many years, and it has always been family-owned. Before the Symington family, the Silva and Dow families owned one of Portugal's most famous port houses.
Dow's simply makes the best ports
The house dates back to 1798, when a Portuguese merchant from Porto found his fortune in London. From there, he shipped his Port wines by boat to Great Britain. This proved a resounding success, and as a result, the brand grew enormously. Today, the Dow's family sells its beautiful ports in many different countries, including, thankfully, the Netherlands. All Ports are made with the utmost love, and you can taste that in this Ruby Port.
Dow's Best Ruby Port
The finest grapes are selected for this premium Ruby Port from Dow's. The winemaker uses local grape varieties including Tinta Barocca, Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. These grapes grow on Dow's oldest vines in a very special climate. The grapes receive plenty of sunshine, cool nighttime temperatures, and the breeze that blows across the Douro River. When the grapes are ripe, they are harvested by hand in the early morning. This Dow's Ruby is then aged in oak for up to three years. The result is fantastic: a ripe aroma of nuts, dried fruit, red berries, and a hint of jam. The taste is soft and beautifully sweet. We also call this Ruby Port a young port because it has a ruby red color and is made for the fruit nuances. In the flavor of this Dow's Ruby Port, we detect plenty of dried rose fruit, some currants, and cherries. The best temperature to drink this port is slightly chilled, as this allows all the flavours to come into their own.
