Merlot grapes grow in various locations around the world, but the location of this Dumanet is truly special. The vineyards are located in the renowned Pays d'Oc wine region, specifically around the cities of Montpellier, Narbonne, and Béziers. This is where Dumanet's old vineyards are located, and the Merlot is planted in various locations. This is how we achieve diversity in the wine, and we've succeeded: a soft and very ripe wine with abundant black fruit.
The old vineyard of Dumanet Merlot
The old vines are relatively low in the vineyard to retain as much heat as possible, which this grape loves. Due to the fine soil rich in gravel, limestone, and clay, the Merlot plant's roots can reach a depth of up to 4 meters. This allows them to absorb a great deal of moisture, which is essential in the very warm climate. At the right ripeness, the Dumanet family harvests the Merlot grapes. The grapes are inspected bunch by bunch, as the purity of this red wine is paramount. The grapes are transported to the press in small crates, always very early in the morning while the Merlot grapes are still dormant. This is done to preserve the freshness of the wine.
The aroma and taste of the Merlot
This delicious Dumanet is ripe and very soft in character, which is clearly evident in the ripe taste. But it begins with the aroma, which is rich and lively, with many nuances of ripe black fruit, but also a hint of bay leaf and licorice. A vigorous swirl of the glass reveals even more beautiful notes, such as a touch of black pepper and a hint of light spice. The taste is so soft, with notes of blackberry, cherry, and currants all delightfully discernible. But this Dumanet is not just any Merlot; it's one with a kick, as we also taste in hints of jam, a touch of pepper, and a hint of bay leaf and licorice. This wine pairs wonderfully with dishes such as tapas, pork, and other meat dishes.
