Durnberg, a family winery from Austria, has been producing the finest and purest wines for years. Christoph Körner currently produces Durnberg's wines, including this Gruner Veltliner Alte Reben. Nestled in the heart of the Weinviertel district, the old vineyards are filled with "white gold," as Durnberg's Gruner Veltliner grapes are known.

The winegrowing of Durnberg

Dürnberg, in the picturesque village of Falkenstein, is managed by winemaker Christoph Körner along with his friends and business partners Matthias Marchesani and Georg Klein. "The three from Dürnberg" are true wine enthusiasts and therefore constantly strive to create wines with strong character that delicately combine the traditional and the modern. The mixture of limestone and loam forms the typical soil—the terroir—of the region. Elegance, complexity on the palate, and cool minerality are rooted here. Regardless of the measures taken in the vineyards, the sustainable use of natural resources is paramount to Dürnberg's concern. As every detail of the vineyards is known, the team has established its own rules for eco-management. Only resources permitted for "controlled integrated production" are used. Because of this sustainable management, the Dürnberg team is proud of their healthy, old vineyards with vines up to 60 years old! In the ideal climate, with abundant sunshine and cool nights, the growing season is long and peaceful. At ideal ripeness, the grapes are harvested in the early morning, after which the wine is aged in steel vats. Pressing takes place after approximately six hours of skin contact, followed by slow fermentation below twenty degrees Celsius. After aging on the fine lees until the end of February, the wine is bottled.

A fruity wine from Durnberg

The bouquet of the Dürnberg Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben is characterized by complex notes of pear and quince, citrus fruits (grapefruit, lime), meadow herbs, and white pepper. This white wine is cool and mineral on the palate, delicately creamy, with balanced acidity and a lovely fruity flavor characterized by pear notes. The fresh, crystal-clear Veltliner comes from vines that are on average between 25 and 30 years old. Try the Dürnberg Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben with, for example, smoked trout, grilled scampi, calamari fritti, fried cod, grilled fish, roast beef, or with a Viennese schnitzel.
