A winery born from the friendship of three friends. Each with their own specialty, Durnberg has rapidly risen to the top of Austrian wines. Refined, elegant, yet with a certain depth. With this, Durnberg demonstrates that anything can be achieved through passion and friendship.

The Gruner Veltliner wine from Austria

Austrian viticulture is centuries old. However, a blemish in the 1980s nearly brought it to a complete collapse. Fortunately, there have always been reliable and prominent wineries in the Austrian vineyards. Durnberg is a prime example. Austrian wines are characterized by the extensive use of the Gruner Veltliner grape, the pride of Austria. Its purity and elegance emphasize precisely what makes Austrian wines so good. Durnberg also has extensive plantings of Gruner Veltliner grapes in its vineyards. Falkenstein, home to Durnberg, lies in the heart of the Weinviertel, a wine region north of Vienna. Its vineyards surround the winery. Due to its specific location, it can get extremely hot here in the summer. However, the altitude means it cools down considerably at night. The temperature fluctuations between day and night are crucial for Durnberg's vines. The Gruner Veltliner develops well, resulting in a beautiful wine.

Impressions of Durnberg Ravenstein Gruner Veltliner Reserve

The Gruner Veltliner grapes for this Durnberg white wine come from the Ravenstein vineyard. This vineyard is located on a southeastern slope near the village of Falkenstein. Because the vines are no less than half a century old, they no longer produce many grapes. However, the quality is remarkably high. The grapes are not harvested until early November, when the weather is pleasantly cool. Fermentation takes place in large oak barrels, after which the wine is sometimes aged for up to 10 months. This creates a rich Gruner Veltliner. Not your everyday white wine. Think toasted notes of almonds and oak. You'll taste baked apple and ripe pears. An almost creamy flavor teases your taste buds. On the tip of your tongue, you'll discover the spiciness of this Durnberg Ravenstein Gruner Veltliner Reserve. In our opinion, one of the finest white wines from Austria.
